Burnside Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) was formed in September 2011 as a result of the amalgamation of the Burnside Key Stage 3 PRU, the local authority’s Key Stage 4 PRU and Forest Pathway College, which was part of Waltham Forest’s Alternative Provision for Year 11 students. It is overseen by the Executive Head of Waltham Forest’s Pupil Referral units and Alternative Provision. The unit is led and managed by a Senior Associate Headteacher.
Burnside Secondary School PRU is a school for the borough's most vulnerable young people, our student's are referred to us for a variety of reasons. They are often at risk of, or have been, excluded from mainstream education. We support students at both KS3 and KS4 academically, focussing on challenging the students in their lessons to close the gaps in their learning and be ambitious in their academic or career aspirations. We believe it is never too late for any student, that each and every one of our students have potential to achieve and make positive contributions to their community.
Our support team are instrumental in helping students and their families develop on a personal level to address the reasons why the student was referred to us. They focus on our ethos of respect and kindness for all, encouraging students to take responsibility for their actions and recognise their potential. We are rightly proud at the work the team do in improving the life chances of our students.
