Coronavirus

Important update for parents of children at Hawkswood Primary

Welcome back to the autumn term, we are so glad to see the children back in school looking forward to the year ahead.

With the ever changing COVID situation we are continuing to follow government guidance and ensuring the safety of the children and staff here at Hawkswood.  As per the government guidance the main symptoms of COVID remain:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

The poster below is a great visual aid for parents in recognising symptoms.  Please feel free to print this and display it in your home.

It is important that, as per our risk assessment, we inform you of the procedure to follow if your child does display any of the COVID symptoms.

If your child displays symptoms at home:

  • Inform the school and keep your child off (it is important that we know so that we can manage any potential outbreaks)
  • Arrange a test
  • If the test is positive – inform the school and follow the medical guidance including a 10 day isolation at home.  If you have other children, they and you should isolate for 14 days.  Please contact schools that your children attend.
  • If the test is negative – inform the school, child can return to school once they feel well

If your child displays symptoms at school:

  • We will isolate the child with a member of staff
  • You will be called to collect your child immediately
  • Arrange a test or when collecting your child request a home testing kit, we can support you to administer the test on site and send it off, but will not be able to do this for you.
  • If the test is positive – inform the school and follow the medical guidance including a 10 day isolation at home.  If you have other children, they and you should isolate for 14 days.  Please contact schools that your children attend.
  • If the test is negative – inform the school, child can return to school once they feel well

If anyone in your home displays symptoms:

  • Arrange a test
  • Contact the school
  • Isolate as a family for 14 days or until a negative test result is confirmed.  Contact the school.
  • If the result is positive, isolate as a family for 14 days

If anyone in our school community displays symptoms

  • Children and staff who display symptoms will be sent home and asked to take a test immediately.
  • If the test is negative, they may return to school

  • If the test is positive we will close the school bubble and all parents and staff will be informed.  The school bubble will isolate for 14 days and move to on-line learning.

It is essential that we have the correct contact information for you so that we can call you quickly when necessary. We also need to have another emergency contact in case you are unavailable.

We have sent home forms to confirm contact details, please ensure these are returned to us ASAP.
