Here at Burnside Secondary School PRU we are committed to delivering high quality enrichment activities.
We are currently delivering AQA Unit Awards which allow students to gain vocational and academic certificates recognising the the work standards they have achieved. We will be using these awards to allow our pupils to experience a wide range of subjects including Horticulture, Arts & Crafts, Cookery and outdoor learning.
We have also been able to secure placements at various off-site courses including Horticulture and bike maintenance at The Higham Hill Park Hub. The students have enjoyed these courses immensely, particularly in relation to future careers.
Our year 10 pupils have the opportunity to go out to a local film studio to learn film-making and produce a short film in the Summer term each year. This has proved very popular and successful with our previous year 10 pupils. This is also a certified course and will lead to a Bronze Arts award.
We also provide a wide range of educational and vocational visits as well as leisure visits. We have a good mix of visits planned throughout the year these include Theatre trips, Science trips, Careers fairs and Sporting events.
Recently our pupils were invited to visit the Plaistow Custody Suite, 350 Romford Road, London. The purpose of the visit was for students to experience how a custody suite works and to experience how a court room operates. This was linked to learning in their mentoring sessions and our drive to improve students ability to safeguard themselves and others.
