KS3 Physical Education

Course Outline

During key stage 3 our students take part in three physical education lessons per week. The first is a traditional sport or activity .The second period is dedicated to the student’s voice. Students have ownership over the activity that they choose to take part in and at the start of each term individually select the sport or activity in which they would like to participate in. Activities are tailored and planned around the students selections. As swimming is such an invaluable life skill to learn we have also committed one double lesson per week to swimming. Swimming is delivered throughout the year so that our students get the opportunity to learn how to swim irrespective of when they join us at Burnside.

How parents/carers can help
  • Children should be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day. Work with and encourage your child to be physically active.
  • Encourage your child to join sports clubs outside of the school environment.
  • Encourage your child to engage with global sporting events through watching, reading and conversation.
