Our Approach To Learning
"A few things I love about BCE is that the teachers around the building are very helpful, nice and funny. I also think there are a lot of great resources around that students can use. I think it is a great place to learn from other people and improve confidence" - BCIS student
All our providers are committed to supporting students to achieve the best possible outcomes both academically and in their future endeavours. Alongside this we work with individuals to develop their resilience and mental well-being so that they feel confident and able to maintain healthy relationships.
The majority of our students arrive with significant barriers to their learning and a history of failing in mainstream education. However, we maintain that our offer is a “Fresh Start” for them an option which allows them to start with a clean sheet and leave behind any poor choices that they may have made in the past.
Staff set high aspirations for the students and are committed to modelling the behaviour and practice that we expect from all individuals on a daily basis.
Our classes have no more than 8-12 students in them. There are always at least two members of staff with every group, a class teacher and a learning mentor. This means that students are well supported in lessons and more able to make the accelerated progress that is expected.
All our providers promote an approach to active learning in order to make lessons fun and enjoyable. Tasks are varied so that they meet the variety of learning needs in the classroom.
The five providers all offer GCSE English and maths as we believe it is essential for all students to achieve these qualifications in order to ensure they have the best possible opportunities at Post 16.
Functional Skills English and maths is also available for those who are less academically able.
